Evren Erdem Ercan, born on May 17, 1974, in Konya, Türkiye, is a master of Turkish tile art. She began working with çini in 1992 and has created hundreds of pieces, known for her refined sense of color, rhythm, and traditional motifs.
The hoodie design is inspired by her artwork featuring a peacock, crafted using the balık pulu (fish-scale) tile technique. This intricate method adds depth and richness to the ceramic surface, and the piece was completed after six months of careful work.
In many cultures, the peacock symbolizes grace and nobility, and in Mesopotamian traditions it holds special significance. In this artwork, the peacock stands before a window, longing for freedom, while the vines around it represent the captivity that surrounds its life. The flowers blooming among the vines symbolize the hope and beauty she seeks even within confinement.
This piece combines traditional Turkish tile craftsmanship with a poignant emotional story, thoughtfully adapted into the hoodie’s modern design.
